NEW 1-day TCP Requalification Course

The BCCSA has lifted the 6 month (180 days) policy for requalification. 

Therefore, any TCP who holds a current and valid TCP certificate, regardless of when it expires within the 3 years, is eligible to take the one day re-qualification course. 

This is your opportunity to requalify and update your knowledge on the NEW MOT Traffic Management Manual (mandatory January 1, 2019) in this 1-day requalification course.

Please Note:  if your TCP’s certificate has been expired for 1 or more years, you are required to take the full 2-day course.

Effective January 1st of 2019 all TCP's are required to successfully complete a one-day TCP Requalification Course before their TCP Certification expires.  You cannot work as a TCP while your certificate is expired.

Eligibility

You are eligible to requalify at any time prior to the expiry of your ticket. 

You have 12 months after expiry to take the TCP Requalification Course.   Once you exceed the 12 months after expiry you must take the 2-day TCP course.

Highlights of 1-day TCP Requalification Course

  • One-day course 8:30 am - 5:30 pm *

  • No practicum

  • An examination is administered within the course at no extra cost.  A passing mark of 80% must be achieved.

  • Pertinent instruction and professional training by qualified and experienced instructor

  • When you register you will be REQUIRED to provide your name, SN#, and expiry date exactly as it appears on your TCP Identification. 

  • If necessary, the Traffic Control Academy will  PRE  screen your eligibility and secure the mandatory Authorization Code from BCCSA.  If you already have this Authorization Code your can provide it during the registration process

  • We provide free Photo ID

  • The cost for TCP Requalification Course including the exam is $150.

Before you register for the 1-day TCP Requalification course you MUST obtain a valid 5-digit Authorization Code.

Course Content

This one-day TCP Requalification Course reviews the knowledge and skills that Traffic Control People (TCP) use according to the WorkSafe BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Ministry of Transportation (MOT) standards, and other regulatory requirements, which include, as applicable, the newest standards and regulations.

Although you may have been working for the past three years or more as a qualified and trained Traffic Control Person (TCP), it is important to ensure you have the most up to date information.  It is your responsibility to regularly review the safety regulations and recommendations in your occupation.  By taking a TCP Requalification Course you review traffic control knowledge and skills in a group setting with the assistance of an instructor to help ensure you pass the exam.

Questions:

Do I have to take a 1 day course once my card expires?

Yes, starting Jan. 1, 2019, the new 1 day requalification course is being implemented, all TCPs wishing to renew their TCP card will be required to take the one day requalification course.

Will there still be an exam?

Yes, there will be an exam within the course. A passing mark of 80% must be achieved.

 Is there an alternative to the 1 day course?

All TCPs in the province of BC will be required to take the 1 day requalification course in order to renew their TCP certificate.  The decision was finalized in 2016.

The option to take the 2 day training course instead of the 1 day refresher will also be available.
