Traffic Management Principles for Safety Officers
Workshop Goals and Objectives
According to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations,
all traffic control must be performed in a safe manner and
in compliance with the Regulations. As well, every employer, must provide sufficient supervision in the
workplace to ensure training and
instruction has been practical and traffic control is being
done effectively and safely. In order to achieve these
objectives, the overall goal of this workshop to assist the
participants to acquire “to the best of their abilities” a
mastery of the new Traffic Management Manual and its table of contents, structure,
and its overall purpose.
By the end of this workshop,
participants should be able to:
1. Apply a working
knowledge of all Applicable Standards found within the
new Traffic Management Manual.
2. Be able to use
the TMM Table of Contents as a quick reference guide to locate specific principals and standards in the
application of creating and implementing Traffic
Management Plans.
3. Describe and compare the
Hierarchy of Individual Roles and Responsibilities found
within Division #3 of the Worker’s Compensation Act (WCA),
the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (OHSR)
and the new Traffic Management Manual as it
relates to the Traffic Control Industry as a whole,
4. Explain how the
Guidelines in Part #18.4 (2) of the OHSR, apply to
Traffic Control Supervisors, including the level of
Training Required by the Board for Traffic Controllers
to be trained in a manner acceptable to WorkSafeBC under
Part #18.4 (c) in order to assume onsite traffic control
duties.
5. Explain the Purpose and
Method of the Quality Control Audit Process, used by
Qualified Traffic Control Personal to ensure onsite
traffic control compliance with the Traffic Management
Plan and current industry standards.
